Biography
Kim Downey is a mother of three boys -- Shawn, a college graduate
who is employed fulltime. Brendon, a freshman at Harrison High School and
Jeremiah, a 3rd grader at Crosby Elementary. She has been
married to her husband, Bryant, for 20 years and they
have lived in the Harrison area for most of their lives.
Kim was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Harrison when she was 3.
As a youth, Kim played several different sports as well as band
and was involved in multiple community and religious organizations. She
graduated from Harrison High School in 1985. She attended
Georgetown College on a Volleyball scholarship helping the team
reach the NAIA National Championships. She graduated from
Georgetown with a B.S. in Accounting and Computer Science in 1989.
Kim has worked as an auditor for Rankin, Rankin and Company, specializing in public and
governmental entities including, School Districts, Colleges,
Universities, Cities and Police / Fire Departments. This
experience has given Kim great insight in the funding challenges and
needs facing our schools today. Kim has spent time in the
classroom as a substitute teacher, giving her an understanding of
the challenges facing our teachers and staff. Kim also founded "On the Run",
a company focusing on transportation, financial management and life
assistance for seniors. Her interest in seniors extends to her
current employment as the Crosby Township Community Coordinator.
As a Community Coordinator, Kim works to create and develop
programming and services to help promote wellness and quality of
life within our community. Kim has also been responsible for
writing and administering public grants in excess of $130,000.
Kim is actively involved in community service and church leadership.
In 2008, as the Upwards Soccer Coordinator, she worked to bring a fun,
reliable and encouraging sports experience for boys and girls to our
community. Kim is also a member of the Hamilton County Public
Health Chair Volleyball Advisory Board. She is the treasurer for
Community Baptist Church of Harrison and has over 10 years experience
directing youth programs.
Kim has been an active member of the PTA for 9 years, serving as
PTA President (2 years), Vice-President (2 years), Treasurer (4 years),
Area Advisor for Southwest District PTA (4 years), Head Room Parent (9 years).
Kim organized the Parent Involvement National PTA School of Excellence
Certification Committee, a committee of Teachers, Parents, Business
Partners and Community Members who evaluate a variety of school
functions. This effort resulted in the Crosby Elementary PTA winning the National PTA award
for 3 years.
Most recently, Kim was awarded the "Friend of Education" award for
her involvement and dedication to our districts' children.
As a member of the School Board, Kim will continue to work hard
to improve our schools by
engaging parents as partners in education, strengthening community
confidence in Southwest Local schools and attracting and retaining
quality teachers and staff.
